The Cookout After Dark
Our first finished scene is live. A late-night burn-barrel cookout, built and documented pillar by pillar — from a bare base to the after-dark glow of the fire. It's a full walkthrough of how the whole thing came together: the engineering, the fabrication, the lighting, and the little realism touches that make an HO scene read as a real place instead of a model.
If you want to see how RailForge actually builds a scene end to end, this is the one to start with.

Drums that actually open
Most HO drums are a single molded lump — a closed lid you can never change. Ours aren't. These 55-gallon drums come with separate lids, so you can seal them up, pop them open, or leave them off entirely for a storage yard that looks worked-in instead of staged. Scatter a few open and a few closed and the whole scene reads busy and lived-in.
Six drums, six lids, HO scale. Unpainted for your own finish, or painted and weathered by us. The ribbed bodies take rust and grime beautifully.

A free tool: the RailForge DCC-EX Loco Programmer
Reading and writing decoder CVs shouldn't mean fighting a clunky interface. The RailForge DCC-EX Loco Programmer is a free Windows app that connects to a DCC-EX command station on a programming track and lets you read and write CVs from a clean, simple screen. Work out the numbers in the Lab's DCC CV Assistant, then program them here.
